The colors are beautiful right now. Fall is a busy time on the farm we have been busy getting ready for winter and praying we have a mild winter. In the fall we work the calves.
We get the cows up. I get made fun of by my dad because I name my cows and most of them know their names, but it makes working them a whole lot easier. A few of them will let you pet them some of them are heifers that I have kept and fed so they are tame and know what the bucket means. Any time I want to get them up or move them from one pasture to another all I have to do is get a bucket and call my ladies and they come.
This is Rog and Bud making a little bull into a steer.
This is one of our heifers we are keeping for a cow. She is all decked out in the latest fashion with a pink ear tag, I believe I'm the only farm in Randolph Co. that has pink ear tags. She is also sporting a yellow nose ring. It is a weaning ring, instead of taking the calves away from their moms to wean them we use these rings. The rings have sharp points on them that stick their moms bag when they try to get milk the mommy cow won't let it suck but it is still with mom and is not bawling and losing weight like they do when you seperate them.
This is one of our new babys that was born last month. We have been blessed with 4 new babys in the last month. They are so much fun to watch they are like little kids playing. I can't stress enough how much the Lord plays a part in this farm. He has blessed us with the chance to raise the girls on a farm He blesses us with good health, a great family, and a love for Him and each other.
Thanks for joining on my look at farm in the fall.
If I talk to my children about what is right and what is wrong, but
I have not love, I am like a ringing doorbell or pots banging in the
kitchen. And though I know what stages they will go through, and
understanding their growing pains, and can answer all their
questions about life, and believe myself to be a devoted mother,
but I have not love, I have nothing.
If I give up the fulfillment of a career to make my children's lives
better, and stay up all night sewing costumes or baking cookies at
short notice, but grumble about lack of sleep, I have not love and
accomplish nothing.
A loving mother is patient with her children's immaturity and
kind even when they are not; a loving mother is not jealous of
their youth nor does she hold it over their heads whenever she
has sacrificed for them.
A loving mother believe in her children; she hopes in each one's
individual ability to stand out as a light in a dark world; she
endures every backache and hearthache to accomplish that.
A loving mother never really dies. As for home-baked bread, it
will be consumed and forgotten: as for spotless floors, they will
soon gather dust and heel marks. As for children, right now toys,
friends and food are all-important to them. But when they grow
up, it will be their mother's love that they will remember and pass
on to others. In that way, she will live on.
So care, training and a loving mother reside in a home, these three
but the greatest of these is a loving mother.

I read this poem this week and it really hit home with me. When Roger and I got married 1 Cor 13: 4 -8 is what we had printed on our napkins. Its what we have always based our marriage on, I made him a quilt with those verses on it. So many people make comments about they wish kids came with an instruction manual well they do its called the Bible. The problem is they don't want to take the time to read it and to follow it. It requires hard work it requires being there all the time you can't decide well I'll do this part but I don't like that rule so we will skip that one or two. I am no where near a perfect parent please don't think I'm trying to judge anyone. I go to the Father daily and ask for His help and forgiveness for my shortcoming.
We pray daily for all 5 of our kiddo's even if two of them are grown they still are loved and are still my kiddo's I hurt when they hurt I still become a she bear when someone hurts them.
Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. We did we had a great one, had a church camp meeting great food and wonderful fellowship.
Monday was one of those days I just wanted to crawl under a bed and hide from the world. Do any of ya'll ever have those days? The night before we had thunder storms and our girls do not get any sleep when its storming so they are cranky girls the next day. Monday it seem worst than normal. It was a long day for all of us and school took longer than normal just a rough day all around. But today is a new day and it shall be better!!!
I took my dad to the VA in Memphis for an appt. The parking over there is crazy we drove around the parking lots for an hour looking for a parking spot finally I stopped someone coming out of the building and told them I would give them a ride to their car if I could have their spot he was parked close so he waited for me to come around to get the spot before he pulled out. So glad we don't have to go over there very often. I am taking my mom to the doctor Friday for a check up she is my hero. She had a stroke almost 10 years ago and has not been able to talk since she can't move her right arm and is in a wheelchair. She lights up the room with her smile she gets out to check the cows when she feels like it dad helps her into the truck and the days she doesn't feel like getting out of bed she still has her smile. I'm blessed to live close to them and get to see them everyday. I try to cook a big enough supper to share. Tuesday night supper was later than usual and dad came over before we were done eating and said " We're hungry Bec" I had told him what we were having and that there was going to be plenty...he is funny..
I'm hoping we have another beautiful fall like this. Would love to get some more pictures like this. This is on top of the big hill in our pasture looking down on to the hay field. Its a long climb up when the tractor messes up and you have to walk back to the house...know for a fact had to do it a couple of times.
We enjoyed our trip to the Memphis zoo! It had been a few years since I had been and there were quite a few new things there. The weather was great and I love we are able to go when there is not a crowd.

My girls + one from church all getting alone and pretty too.
I believe he had the right idea. After all the walking this is what I wanted to do when we got back but didn't get to.
It was a great day so glad we are able to do the field trips. My dad was asking me about where I had went that night I told him we went to the zoo with the homeschool group. Oh how many went and I told him, he was surprised that there were that many homeschoolers. He has never supported me in my decision to homeschool in fact he has fought me on it. He has seen that it is helping the girls but still fights me on it. Like the first day of school this year he came over and the girls were here and he said oh I figure you had enough of that homeschooling last year and would have but them on the bus this year. Do any of you have stuggles with your family like this? My in-laws didn't like it to start out with but they saw how much it has helped the girls my mother in law is my biggest cheerleader now. I know my daddy is from the old school he only got a 6th grade education then had to go to the field to work. Well I will get off here got to get ready I have to go to the cattle sale and see what the calve prices are I have some ready to sell and then to a 4-H meeting. Thanks for reading and I welcome comments and any questions you have about farm life. Have a blessed day!
This week has made me realize just how fast life flows by. My favorite son turned 24 this week. Before you think I'm being mean its always a joke around here as he is the only guy with 4 sisters. People do look at me when I introduce him as my favorite son. We finished the hay this last week woohoo. It was a hot week and then it cooled off this week but I will take the cooler weather. The above picture is Abigail and Jessie at the creek that runs through the hay field.
Here are a few of my baby calves and one of the mommy cows. There will be lots more pictures of the calves to follow.
This is our Labor Day picture Abigail loves to go fishing she especially enjoyed this trip she caught a crappie and daddy didn't get a single fish.
Now if only we could be that happy about getting school work and chores done. If you have ever read James Dodsons book on Strongwill Child you know Abigail she can do anything in the world but it has to be her idea. You have to learn how to funnel the energy. Sometimes its a struggle.
This is Rog and me. It was taken Easter Sunday don't look like cattle farmers do we...lol.. it is back behind the barn. The Lord has blessed us with a beautiful place. And a beautiful marriage I can say enough about how much or how important it is to keep the Lord in the center of your marriage.
This is my three girls that are growing faster than weeds. They are now in 7th grade, 6th grade and 4th grade. Homeschooling is something I never dreamed I would be doing but by God's grace and His loving care we are enjoying this journey it has been wonderful for our family. The girls are getting to see that there is more to life than the drama of school life and that farm life relates to other parts of life. Hope you enjoy this look into our day.
Welcome to the Honey Farm and Homeschool. Hope you enjoy this small look into our lives as we journey along doing what we feel the Lord has called us to do. A little background about us I'm just a country gal who loves God, her husband, her kids, the farm and the life the Lord has blessed me with. I'm living the life I always dreamed about raising cattle on the farm connected to my parents farm. My husband, girls and I raise beef cattle. I love to tease my husband because growing up he always said he wanted a college degree so he would never have to work on a farm. But he learned that cattle farming is nothing like row crop farming. Then he went and married a farmers daughter (who is a big tom boy). I help my dad cut, rake and bale round bales of hay for our cows his and ours. Yes I drive the tractors they are older than me and none have cabs on them.
We have chickens and raise baby calves on bottles sometimes we have one now. We also homeschool our 3 girls that are still at home. This is our 2nd year to homeschool all of them. We have two kids that are grown.
So onward we go on this journey I hope you enjoy the post as I let you know the things that go on in our lives on the farm. We never know from day to day what is going to happen next. I try to show the girls how to use what they are learning and how it relates to real life.
Hope you enjoy your visit with us.
Have a Blessed Day!
Bec
